Chess Online

How Important Are Chess Openings?
The game of chess has evolved over the centuries that it has been around. Different decades have different strategies and tactics that are used to win. Different countries sometimes reflect different tactics in the chess grandmasters. Because we now have chess online, the opening moves of the game are even more important.

Many chess novices assume that the beginning of the game isn't really essential as both sides are just trying to get some of their stronger pieces out. Once you start playing chess online against some stronger opponents you quickly realize how essential every single move is in the opening of the game. Each different opening even has a different name. Openings are named with things like "Queen's Gambit" and "Sicilian Defense". Each opening hopes to trick the opponent and establish the flow of the game.

In chess and especially in chess online, you are either reacting to moves or you are making moves to be reacted to. You want to be making the big moves that force your opponent to react. A key rule of thumb to follow in openings is to try to take possession of the middle of the board. That grid of four squares is essential to a game of chess.

You can try to take the middle by putting your pieces there, or by placing pieces in a way that block your opponent from putting his pieces there. Playing chess online will help you because you can play thousands of games in one day to try to perfect an opening scenario that works for you. Make sure that you always advance pieces. Never bring a piece out only to have to return it one move later. This is a waste of a move!

Playing chess online is the fastest way to improve your chess openings.
